The Finnish network of regional dance centres is a national expert on all matters related to dance. Our mission is to develop the structures of the dance field and evolve the expressive power and quality of dance. The network consists of six regional centres, backed by 12 background organisations with almost 600 members. The network was established in 2004.
THE FINNISH NETWORK OF REGIONAL DANCE CENTRE
We are the biggest employer in the freelance dance field in Finland, and a major participant in and initiator of international initiatives in the Finnish contemporary dance community. Our network is also a pioneer and developer of audience work, applied dance, community-based dance initiatives and cultural wellbeing.
Our objectives are:
- To improve equal availability of and access to dance-based art regardless of place of residence and financial standing.
- To develop working opportunities for artists working with dance in their respective fields of art.
- To increase collaboration and build knowledge and expertise on a regional, national and international level.

STRATEGY OF THE FINNISH NETWORK
The network of regional dance centres is a collaboration platform that works to develop the operations of the regional dance centres in Finland. We are the biggest employer in the freelance dance field in Finland. Our mission is to maintain and develop the availability and accessibility of dancebased art on the national level. As the leading network of dance experts, we are also an active participant in national cultural politics.
DANCE REGIONAL CENTERS
THE REGIONAL DANCE CENTRE OF EASTERN FINLAND
The Regional Dance Centre of Eastern Finland (ITAK) operates in Northern Savo, Southern Savo and North Karelia. The organisation’s mission is to support, both socially and financially, the visibility and development of dance as an art in Eastern Finland and to promote its availability and accessibility in the region, in order to enhance employment conditions for professional dance artists and to encourage networking between dancers and other parties. ITAK organizes two annual contemporary dance festivals, Paikallisliike (Kuopio) and Yksin Sateessa? – Lonely in the Rain? (Joensuu). ITAK manages the Sotku theatre in Kuopio.
THE REGIONAL DANCE CENTER OF CENTRAL FINLAND
The Regional Dance Center of Central Finland (KSTK) maintain ja developes national dance center activities in the middle of Finland. The core of the KSTK’s work is to support the employment of dance professionals in the area and to increase the diversity of dance awareness. KSTK’s operations are based on a network-based structure in which the KSTK conducts a continuous dialogue with dance professionals, stakeholders, the public and the surrounding reality. KSTK produces annually the Time of Dance Festival and develops, together with artists, performance concepts.
THE REGIONAL DANCE CENTRE OF WESTERN FINLAND
Regional Dance Centre of Western Finland covers Southwest Finland and the province of Satakunta. Office is located in Turku where dance centre has also dance studio.
The centre aims to develop collaboration between various agents and actors in the dance field and gain more public recognition for contemporary dance.
It promotes dance, supports freelance dance artists to work in the region and arranges meetings, seminars and workshops.
THE REGIONAL DANCE CENTRE OF OSTROBOTHNIA
The Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia is active in the regions of Ostrobothnia, Central Ostrobothnia and South Ostrobothnia. The bilingual activities are coordinated from Vaasa. The core of the centre is to support dance professionals and create employment opportunities for them, and the aim is to make dance available and accessible. The Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia is built upon a strong and collaborative regional network of professionals.
THE REGIONAL DANCE CENTRE OF NORTHERN FINLAND
The Regional Dance Centre of Northern Finland is formed by JoJo – Oulu Dance Centre, Dancetheatre Rimpparemmi, Routa Company and Pyhäsalmi Dance Association. Dance Centre operates from the most northern Lapland to southern parts of Northern Ostrobothnia and Kainuu. Organisation’s mission is to support equal availability of dance art and enhance employment conditions for professional dance artists. Two annual dance festivals are operated in the area: OuDance Festival in Oulu and Full Moon Dance Festival in Pyhäsalmi.
